What a great way to start the summer! We host a fundraiser for Central Ocean Rotary's scholarship fund. 


Our bugseum has added fun with cockroach races, face painting, scavenger hunts, prizes, and more. Special guests include the Mosquito Commission, Master Gardeners, Cattus Island Park, alongside live music. 


All proceeds from admission will benefit Rotary's Scholarship Fund.






Saving the Monarch Butterfly


The Monarch is an easily recognized and beloved butterfly that migrates through our area. Sadly, their numbers have steadily decreased in recent years and are now dangerously low. Help save the Monarch! Learn how to attract, raise, and release these beauties from an expert so you can watch them inhabit your garden, enjoy their appeal, and feel proud for helping these iconic insects.

June 24 – Knowing your Natives – Designing and preparing your area with native plants to create a Monarch Way Station


July 22 – Butterfly Basics – Understanding the anatomy and life cycle to provide a safe haven for Monarchs at every stage.


August 26 – Managing your Monarchs – Caring for caterpillars, maintaining food sources, protecting from predators and developing pest management


September 23 – Monarch Migration - Tagging and releasing butterflies and end of season checklist.


$40 for series or $12 per workshop

      Design a Page in Our Next Coloring Book


     It’s easy! 

Create a black & white image inspired by insects and arthropods. Winning designs will be featured in a coloring book to be published and distributed Spring 2017. 


Contest open to children ages 17 and under.

One (1) entry per child. Entries must be black and white images only, no gray scale, no color. 

Free to enter.


Submission deadline is 12/1/17.

Insectropolis Art Show-

        Show us your ARThropod


Insectropolis announces a call to artists to "Show us your Arthropod!" for an art exhibition.  Accepted entries will be showcased in the BUGS Art Show Exhibit on display March 1- Sept 15, 2017. Free to enter. Open to U.S. resident artists at least 18 years old. 2D Work must be no more than 6' in any direction including the framing or mounting. 3D work must be no larger than 18'' x 32" x 10"; no freestanding sculptures. 


The theme is art inspired by or including an insect or arthropod. This bug theme can be expressed many ways and we look forward to seeing your interpretation. Entries must be original, child friendly, no nudity or violence. 


All media is welcome including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, sculpture in any medium, collage, printmaking, photography and digital media. All work must be suitably framed, wired and ready for hanging. Works on paper must be framed under plexiglass or glass. Maximum weight of sculpture: 10 pounds. Wall mounted monitors must be provided for videos. Up to 3 entries per artist. Exhibit space is limited so not all work may be accepted into show.
